Speakers Bureau

You don’t have to be LGBT yourself, straight allies are welcome.  Speaking can be both personally rewarding and a way to serve the LGBT community.  Interested speakers will not only learn the fundamentals of public speaking, but they will also be given resources to effectively speak about issues directly affecting the LGBT community.

Who is part of Team Outreach?
Lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people, and LGBT allies who seek to educate others about the lives of LGBT people by sharing their experiences.

Why do we need an outreach team?
LGBT people are often invisible, and that invisibility allows myths, stereotypes, misinformation, fear, and intolerance to flourish.  This leads to harassment, discrimination, and oppression; homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia are products of ignorance.  By letting people get to know members of the LGBT community, we can reduce the myths, stereotypes, and misinformation that pervade society.  Team Outreach members are committed to breaking the silence by talking with people about their lives.

Where?
Team Outreach panels visit college classes, human service agencies, nonprofit organizations, staff and faculty development trainings, corporate employee resource groups, student organizations, religious organizations and more.  Speaking panels are available to all.

How Can You Sign Up?
A $20 donation is requested to cover the cost of materials and refreshments.  Trainings take place as needed throughout the year.  For more information contact Jon Fitzgerald, Volunteer Coordinator at (248) 398-7105.

Request an Affirmations representative to speak at your function.
