Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What are the minimum qualifications I need to join the board? A: To be considered for Affirmations Board of Directors, you must be at least 18 years of age and an Affirmations member at least 60 days prior to elections.
Q: Is there compensation for being a board member? A: While monetary compensation is not offered, the non-tangibles are priceless.
Q: How long is a board term? A: Three years
Q: What kind of time committment can I expect as a board member? A: All board members are asked to:
- Attend board meetings regularly - these generally meet on the 4th Wednesday of the month from 6:30pm-9:00pm.
- Join and participate in one of the Board committees, requiring no more than once per month attendance.
- Participate in a two-day board member development trainings/strategic planning sessions, 1-2 times a year.
- Attend and invite friends to The Big Bash, Affirmations' largest annual fundraising event.
- Periodically attend programs, services, and fundraisers offered at the center, as an ambassador of the center.
Q: What is a letter of interest and why do I need one? A: Those interested in being considered for Affirmations Board of Directors should submit a letter of interest. This should include your name, contact information and descriptions of why you're interested in becoming an Affirmations Board Member, prior board member experience, and any accomplishments or awards earned. The letter of interest must be mailed to the Secretary of the board.
Q: What is a letter of intent? A: It is a formal submission of intent to run. Once you've submitted your letter of interest (see above), fill out the following form and mail it to the address listed below.
Q: Who counts the ballots? A: One member of the nominating committee & two other individuals, not affiliated with Affirmations staff, board or board candidates.
