What types of counseling services does Affirmations offer?
We offer short-term and long-term counseling that includes exploration of important issues such as healthy relationships, sexual orientation, gender identity, self esteem, confidence, and personal growth.
The most common issues for which people seek counseling at Affirmations are:
- Relationship issues
- Coming Out
- Gender identity/exploration
- Substance use/abuse
- Domestic or intimate partner violence
Who are the therapists?
Counseling services are provided by graduate and/or doctoral students with advanced practice coursework in counseling, clinical psychology or social work. The students are supervised by a licensed professional in the mental health services field (e.g. LMSW, LPC, LP).
Additionally, we have licensed therapists who see individuals and couples with Blue Cross Blue Shield traditional or PPO insurance.
How much does counseling cost?
Session cost is determined through insurance eligibility or sliding scale based on annual income. Affirmations accepts cash, check and credit/debit card.
For Affirmations' sliding fee scale services, the initial assessment session costs $35. Additional sessions are priced on a sliding scale based on income and household size. The per-session fee are calculated during the initial assessment appointment. Counseling may be free to those who qualify.
For Affirmations' billable insurance services, the cost of the initial assessment and per-session fees are determined by the insurance company.
Do you offer couples therapy?
Yes. In fact, more than half of our clients at Affirmations seek services for relationship related issues.
How long are the sessions?
An initial assessment appointment lasts about 2 hours. Weekly sessions last about 45 minutes.
Are there a limited number of sessions?
No, duration of therapy is guided by client need and/or insurance requirements/guidelines.
Can I come to counseling if I'm court offered?
At this time, we do not currently provide letters to court officials for counseling services provided.
Do your counselors prescribe medication?
No, our therapists are not licensed to prescribe medication. Affirmations can, however, provide LGBT-affirming referrals to licensed psychiatrists.
