Advocacy: Anti-Bullying Initiative

LGBTQ youth suffer from disproportionately high rates of suicide and homelessness. Bullying is a leading factor resulting in limiting the full potential of all youth. Currently there are no state-wide protections for LGBTQ youth in Michigan schools.

The Bully Button Initiative

Affirmations and the Community Centers Network are working to help educate and empower young people and parents on how to best handle and stop instances of bullying.  We plan to implement the use of a bully button both on our website as well as a part of our current helpline.  The bully button will allow parents and young people to report incidents of bullying as they happen.

Affirmations' trained helpline staff will serve as advocates for youth, families and the school system by utilizing existing partnerships and collaborations and providing resources to educate and empower school faculty and staff.
