Affirmations Alternative High School program is intended to give students a break from harassing situations they may be dealing or have dealt with in the past, and provide them with uniquely tailored mentorship and learning opportunities. The school is administered through Michigan Educational Partnership and diplomas are issued through Ithaca Public Schools. MEP has been providing alternative education opportunities for 35 years, including online learning.
When students come in, they will complete two sets of tests to find out where their skill levels are. Following the tests, students work a their own pace based on where they are at. Classes are in line with the Michigan Merit curriculum.
To sign up for more information or to register, contact Nino Rea at (586) 588-0238 or Scott Bentas at (586) 382-3317 or stop by the center Mondays or Thursdays between 10am-2pm.
Students are partnered with a Highly Qualified (HQ) teacher. The student and HQ teacher interact regularly through email/telephone conversations, face-to-face meetings, and instant messaging. When a student needs teacher assistance, the student is encouraged to contact the teacher.
Teachers speak to students and parents about the course over the phone at least once a week.
Parent/Guardians can monitor their child's progress with access through their own parent portal. Once a student account is created, a parent/guardian account is then able to be set up as well. These portals keep parents/guardians updated on upcoming assignments, due dates, and student progress.
Parents/Guardians will have daily access to their student's HQ teacher. They will be available to answer questions about the course and about your student's progress.
Michigan Educational Partnership (MEP) utilizes education2020, a leading supplier of one-on-one instruction in core and elective courses. E2020 courses are aligned to national and state standards. Courses are rich in multi-media and engage students using animations, simulations, exploration activities, video presentations, online content, and vocabulary activities.
